The passion, for still and moving pictures. Composition, lighting, editing (ah yes, “narrative structure”…), grading, animation, visual FX, music and sound design, in a few words, the Art and History of Cinematography. I was fed on the great classics, and I was fortunate enough to grow up in a time when a lot about modern filmmaking was being invented along the way by guys like Lucas and Spielberg, when the boys of what would later become Industrial Light and Magic were just crazy dudes playing around in a garage with puppets and scale models, picking up the heritage of stop-motion pioneers like Ray Harryhausen.
The passion, for all that I consider the essential role of a producer. Starting with a blank piece of paper, a few ideas, the basic facts and needs from a client, timing, budget, and building and designing the project from scratch, taking all the parameters into consideration, scouting for the right talent and specialists, selecting the best production and post procedures, creating flawless mutual communication between all the actors in the play. After all, the producer is the central gear in the clockwork, the master mechanic of the production machine.
The passion, for always trying to improve production processes. After being Head of TV at a dynamic international agency for years, I know that nobody needs yet another standard production company. An outstanding artistic talent alone is not enough, if there is no team play. What really makes the difference is having a global approach of the project from first steps of conception to master delivery, applying a central and expert supervision to every step of the chain, building a team of superior professional and human value, where everyone will be inclined to give their best.
